45 state companies included in private company list

by David Page

OKLAHOMA CITY – In 1997, Shannon Wilburn and Daven Tackett were sitting in Wilburn’s living room when they created Just Between Friends.

The Broken Arrow-based company sponsored consignment sales for children’s clothes and toys and maternity items.
In 2004 they expanded and started offering franchises. The next year, revenue totaled $1.8 million. Revenue for 2008 totaled $6.8 million, up from $1.8 million in 2005 and the increase earned Just Between Friends Franchise Systems a ranking of 1,102nd on Inc. magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing U.S. companies. It was the second consecutive year the company has been ranked on the Inc. list and represented a move up of almost 100 places.
“Just Between Friends has experienced incredible growth and we credit it to our talented franchisees who run great events in their communities as well as our consignors and volunteers who make it happen,” said Wilburn, president and co-founder.
Since September, Just Between Friends has grown from 61 franchises in 18 states to 95 franchises in 20 states. Revenue is expected to exceed $10 million this year.
“With the jobless rate at an all-time high and the recession affecting families across the country, we know our business is providing a service that is needed now more than ever,” said Tackett, vice president and the other co-founder of Just Between Friends Franchise Systems.
Just Between Friends was among the 45 Oklahoma companies included on Inc. magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private U.S. companies. Inc. announced the list on Wednesday.
The third annual Inc. 5,000 included 21 Oklahoma City companies, 10 from Tulsa, three from Norman, two each from Stillwater, Broken Arrow, Woodward and Edmond and one each from Enid, Lawton and Yukon.
CSI Consulting Services of Oklahoma City was ranked 91st among the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies, the highest ranking for any state company.
Earlier this month, CSI was awarded a contract to provide information technology software modification, modernization and sustainment services at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center Information Technology Directorate of Tinker Air Force Base.
CSI had revenue for 2008 of $6.4 million, up from $359,613 for 2005, according to the magazine. CSI has 129 employees.
Latshaw Drilling & Exploration of Tulsa was the second-highest-ranked Oklahoma company at 118th. Latshaw’s 2008 revenue totaled $81.5 million, up from $5.4 million in 2005. Latshaw has 305 employees.
Paycom, an Oklahoma City-based Internet payroll company, ranked 1,916th with 2008 revenue of $21.4 million, up from $8 million in 2005.
“The success and growth of our company and this continued recognition from Inc. is a testament to our ability to listen to our customers and provide them with the cost-effective solutions they need to streamline their payroll and HR processes,” said Chad Richison, Paycom CEO.
Paycom processes payrolls for customers in all 50 states and within the last year has added five new sales offices – Tampa, Austin, Houston, Charlotte and Phoenix – and expanded its headquarters to two floors in Lakepoint Towers, 4005 Northwest Expressway. Paycom also has offices in Tulsa, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and Fort Worth.
“In these economic times, customers don’t want the financial burden of the upfront costs associated with purchasing installed software,” said Jeff York, Paycom’s vice president of sales. “With Paycom, they pay as they go for the online services they use. Because we offer an entire suite of services in one system, customers eliminate the need to purchase, maintain and interface multiple payroll and HR systems, which can save them a ton of money and time.”
